MEETING THE NEEDS OF THE COMMUNITY
MHHC now serves more than 48,000 patients annually and provides a wide range of primary, specialty, dental, mental health, educational and social services at five convenient locations. In addition, Morris Heights Health Center maintains school-based health facilities in eight New York City Public Schools that provide health care for the students.
A TRADITION OF INNOVATION
- MHHC was the first federally funded community health center in New York City to be accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).
- The Women’s Health & Birthing Pavilion (WH & BP) of MHHC was the first out-of-hospital, midwifery-run childbearing center in a low income community in the country.
- The WH&BP is accredited by the National Association of Childbearing Centers (NACC).
- MHHC is a founding member of Affinity Health Plan, formerly The Bronx Health Plan, one of the first managed care programs for Bronx residents.
- MHHC has provided on-site HIV/AIDS services since the beginning of the AIDS epidemic. In recognition of our pioneering care, we were chosen to be one of the three national pilot projects to demonstrate an integrated centralized model of HIV/AIDS services, which is now replicated nationwide.
- Morris Heights Health Center is affiliated with the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) and the Community Health Care Association of New York State (CHCANYS).
