What is the Exchange?

The New York Health Benefits Exchange (HIX) is a oe0stop, online marketplace where you can shop for and buy health insurance coverage.

What are the advantages of using the HIX?

The HIX will make shopping for insurance easier and simpler by offering standardized products. It’s the only place to get financial assistance to reduce the cost of coverage.

How will the Exchange be used?

People will access the Exchange to:

• Compare medical and dental insurance options
• Select the health insurance coverage
• Calculate cost, about public health insurance programs
• Learn about other public health programs

Who is Eligible?

• You must live in New York State.
• You must be a citizen or lawfully present immigrant
• The HIX will include both an individual and an Employer Exchange (“SHOP”), for people who own or work for a small business with 2-50 employees.

How many people will benefit from the HIX?

In metropolitan NYC alone, more than 700,000 people will be eligible to receive help to pay for coverage through the HIX. MHHC experts will be available to guide you through the enrollment process.

How will the Exchange help consumers save money?

For people with an annual income between ($11,490 to $45,960 for a single person [lower for people with children]), subsidies and/or credits will offset some of the cost of coverage.
