At MHHC, providing our community with access to effective and affordable care so that everyone can live a healthy lifestyle is our top priority. Part of making positive health decisions is understanding how where you live, along with other social determinates of health, can affect you.
In the South Bronx, the poorest urban congressional district in the country, the population suffers high rates of diabetes, obesity, heart disease, asthma, HIV/AIDS, and infant mortality. In Flatbush, Brooklyn, residents also suffer from poor health, with significantly high infant mortality rates, along with cases of obesity and asthma.
Luckily, many of the conditions that affect our communities are caused by preventable or controllable factors. The first step to improving or preventing these factors from negatively affecting our lives is education.
That’s why we’ve compiled this small library, featuring conditions of top concern in the Bronx and Brooklyn area. Know about the risks and see how you can improve or maintain your health today!
