Morris Heights Health Center(MHHC) has partnered with the New York Public Library (NYPL) Early Literacy’s program to support our Reach Out & Read. Reach Out & Read is a nonprofit organization that gives young children a foundation for success by incorporating books into pediatric care and encouraging families to read aloud together. During regular pediatric checkups, Reach Out and Read pediatricians, family physicians, and nurse practitioners give new, developmentally-appropriate books to children, ages 6 months through 5 years. They also advise parents about the importance of reading aloud to children from infancy to prepare them for success in school. NYPL visits our pediatric and WIC units the first & last Wednesday of the month to read to our patients and provide literacy tips for parents. The best part of the event? Every patient leaves with a book!
